This syllabus was designed upon results of the mock examination M0024. According to your results, we have found a need of improvement of areas such as grammar and lexis.

A wide knowledge of general academic vocabulary is essential for all sections of the test. The reading and listening sections both have specific vocabulary questions that check understanding of vocabulary in context.

Knowledge of English sentence structure and ability to understand and use a range of grammatical structures is necessary for all sections of the test. A good understanding of grammatical structures is also required to understand the passages and answer the questions in the reading and listening sections.

The vocabulary material for this course has been selected according two criteria:

  1. Main academic subject areas: arts, life science, social science and physical science. Although you are not expected to have specialized content knowledge, you are expected to have a good understanding of the content-specific words that are commonly used in all of these academic areas. These are not all the words you will need, but will give you a starting point for expanding your vocabulary in each area.
  2. The Academic Word List. This is a list of 570 words taht are most commonly used in academic contexts. The selection is based on samples of academic texts from a wide range of subject areas and includes general academic words that are commonly used in all subject areas; it does not include subject-specific words.

The grammar points have been selected according to which grammar will be most useful for you in the test. You will need to have a general level of grammatical accuracy in order to achieve a high score. There are also some common mistakes test takers have. Despite not all of these mistakes were done by you in your mock examination, it is important to clarify common mistakes done in past papers.
